Randi Schiffman turned to yoga to heal on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels. The practice quickly evolved into a lifestyle that she honors, respects, and is delighted to share with others. Through her personal experience and healing, she has the power to make authentic connections with others and is inspired to bring it to everyone who is called to step on this path. She has watched her own transformation and growth and is inspired to help facilitate this healing for others.
Randi is certified at the 500hr level with SchoolYoga Institute and has helped to establish the Mystical Yoga Farm, an experiential permaculture and yoga retreat center on Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. Randi continues to teach and practice wherever she is in the world. She facilitates 200hr and 500hr yoga teacher training courses and retreats in Mexico, Central, and South America and is expanding to more locations worldwide. She is also a certified Thai Masseuse. She is the founder of SuryaFlow: The Art of Sacred Movement.

How does doing yoga make you feel?
Yoga makes me feel connected. Connection to my body, mind, and spirit, and breath. It allows me to see more clearly in movement and in stillness.
How long have you been doing yoga?
I have been practicing yoga since 2009, but it feels like lifetimes.
Why did you start doing yoga?
I started doing yoga after finding myself stressed to a point of disease. I woke up more morning with a bald spot on top of my head, the shingles, and blood in my bowel movements. Every doctor said it was stress, so I turned to yoga after googling “stress relievers”.
What is your favorite type of Yoga? Which type are you best at?
Every yoga is my favorite type! I am naturally drawn to a more dynamic vinyasa practice from Ashtanga lineage, but have a strong foundation in alignment taken from BKS Iyengar. I enjoy balancing my fire with restorative and yin classes as well.
What don’t you like about yoga (if anything)?
I dont like the reputation it is gaining in the west. It is losing its roots and becomes all about the physical practice and not the philosophy behind the practice, meditation in its foundation.
What do you love about yoga?
I love how yoga is a journey into the soul, an opening of the heart. I love how it takes you on a journey, and how it is a work in rather than a work out. I love how it allows you to be vulnerable.
How often do you do yoga?
I practice yoga asana about 5 times a week but I would like to say I am doing yoga all the time, in every moment. I try and live my life in yoga.
Do you eat before or after yoga? What do you usually eat?
I prefer to practice in the morning before I eat so I can better connect to my body physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. When the belly is empty, purification and cleansing can begin. food serves as a distraction to feel into these deeper parts of the body.
